Chris Cole
Following academic education, formal qualifications (Chartered Engineer) and experience in Contracting and Consultancy, Chris was a founding Partner of WSP Group, a Consulting Engineer, at its inception in the mid-1970s. In 1987 he became CEO and led the IPO of WSP and in 1990 transferred to the Main Market.
He assembled and led a global management team which directed the successful operational and strategic development of the Group worldwide. In 2012, when it was 11,000 people in 40 countries, he led the business through the transition into a wider Canadian ownership where he is now the Chairman, WSP Global.
Since 2014 Chris has been Non-Executive Chairman of Applus+ following the company’s IPO on the Spanish Stock Exchange (IGBM). With a predominantly UK investor base, Chris brings public company experience to the Board, which comprises a blend of Spanish and international directors. From 2008 to 2019, Chris was Chairman of Ashtead Group plc, a FTSE100 company, overseeing significant increase in shareholder value. Chris was runner-up for the FTSE100 Chairman Award in 2016 by The Sunday Times.
